Hi Alexandra,

What OS are you running?  Are you sure that you've selected the Background Eraser?  As you mentioned, we've changed the icons.

Thanks,
David

I have to tell you I am not so happy with the tools changing three weeks before Christmas. (Mac OS 10.10.5) I feel like I have to relearn the whole program because all the tools have changed location, and they don't look the same. I'm spending WAY too much time just searching for tools that I used to just click on automatically without even thinking. Ugh.

The tools haven't changed location (unless you move them in the toolbar preferences). The only change was to use new icons.

You are pretty much right - I just opened it up and was really taken aback. (and frustrated.) My lasso tool however did not land in the old location, and the quick selection tool has swapped with the move tool, both of which had icons that I did not recognize. I definitely griped and over reacted, but at the same time, the new look has really slowed me down in production temporarily at a very inopportune time of year. I'll keep trying to familiarize myself with it and try to not complain again with such a knee jerk reaction. Thanks for your response.

Howdy Patricia,

If it's any consolation, now you can totally customize which tools are in your toolbox as well as how they're grouped and what their shortcuts are simply by going to Edit > Toolbar.

Hope that helps!

I did notice that, and when I get over the shock, I will try to go customize it. I know in the long run, it may turn out to be a better setup - just wish I didn't have to deal with it while getting Christmas orders out. Thank you!

Exactly! Why do you have to keep changing things that work fine, and after 20 years and on a deadline I have to be looking up eraser tool info! Not happy.

I have to agree with Patricia the change in look has slowed me down. And what happened is the background and magic erase tool switched position and since the icon was so different I grabbed the wrong tool. I have to ask why change the classic icons all the sudden. Graphics is very visual and we recognize tools better by appearance than name or even position. Also the keyboard shortcut for the move tool is not working.

I work on a PC Windows 7 at office and a PC windows 10 at home

I agree with these nice people. I have been using Photoshop for over 10 years, and I really don't like the new update to CC.. Why did you change the move tool icon? There was literally no reason... I'm used to it being in one location looking like one thing. I'm glad I can edit the toolbar, so I can move it back to where it's supposed to be. I really am not a fan of stupid changes like that.

Like when the effects menu was reordered. That really screwed me up for a long time until I got used to it again. Simple changes like that really screw people up when they've been using Photoshop everyday.
