Photoshop: Background colour automatically changing to black

The background is automatically changing to black in existing and new files. When i try to erase or draw over the black background it automatically goes to black again. If I insert an image it comes up as a box without any image in it, even if i move the image up and down through the layers. I am not sure if it is a button on my keyboard that has changed the settings by accident or if my photoshop has just suddenly stopped working the way it used to.

Hi Katie,

Sorry for the weird black screen behavior.

Which version of Photoshop are you working with?
Which operating system are you using?

It sounds like it might be related to the video card, possibly a driver. See what happens if you disable it in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance dialog.

Let us know how it goes.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled background is automatically going black.

When i go into my files the background automatically changes from white to black and i don't know how to get it back to white. I have tried creating another layer and filling the screen white but it automatically goes black.

Hi Katie,

Is this the same issue?  Is your problem solved?

Thanks,
