Lightroom: Auto Sync Issue

I am using LR 4.1 RC2 on an iMac (i7 quad-core 2.97 processors w/16 GB memory).
I like to use the "Auto Sync" function, often with all photos selected. I have reserved judgement for as long as possible, but I can no longer wait to report the issue I'm having. I'll give you my most recent example, which is making my life very difficult. I am editing about 350 photos from a college graduation ceremony. Dark robes and bright windows generally mess up any auto toning that LR wants to do, so what I want to do is zero out all values. I select all, making sure that auto sync is on and that all appropriate adjustments will be sync'd. I then use the "zeroed" preset in LR, figuring all photos will be zeroed out. Then, a funny thing happens: about 10-20 are zeroed out and the remaining 330-340 photos have the auto settings. I want to apply this zeroed preset across the board, but there appears to be an issue with the process. I could really use some help because, like I say, I use auto sync a lot and it generally saves me time.
Also, just a general note on LR 4. It's slower than LR 3. Thanks.
