auto select layer bug

there is a bug in the move tool, auto select layer.

if you have a series of layers clipped to an underlying shape, (with a clipping mask) and one of the layers is off in the chain, all the layers above the invisible layer won't get considered by the auto select and it selects the base layer instead.

steps:
1: create a new layer, paint something on it,
2: create a 6 new layers, set to clipping mask to layer in step 1 and paint something on them (so that you can click on later using the autoselect)
3: select move tool, make sure autoselect is on, clicking on any of the clipped layers selects the correct corresponding layer,
4: click the eye icon to turn off the first or second clipped layer above the base layer in step 1
5: try the autoselect again and it won't work for any layer above the off one and will select the base layer instead.

I hope this makes sense and you're able to reproduce and fix the issue

It’s not a terribly relevant issue in my workflow but I can reproduce it and it does seem like an counterintuitive and unintended behaviour.

Was this thread one of yours possibly?

Otherwise you might want to alert the original poster there to the Bug Report you created; more »Me Too«-s might help generate attention for the issue at Adobe.
