Auto-Save Reminder

I really wish Photoshop had a function that reminded you to save every x number of minutes. I've had too many accidents where auto-saves don't help me and I just want a nice popup reminding me to save. Some other programs I use have this feature. Animate has a very robust auto-save feature, I think PS could use an upgrade in that regard.

What is the »Automatically Save Recovery Information Every:«-interval you use?

I wonder if you could Script the reminders to pop up at intervals, maybe you should ask over at

But you may have to clarify how the warnings should work with regard to multiple open images being worked on simultaneously.

I have mine set to recover every 10 minutes - but this feature doesn’t help me if I mess up and accidentally hit ctrl + Q (Q is the shortcut for free transform in Animate) which I’ve done a few times already. Auto save only works if PS experiences a crash. For me this is more about preventing the damage of user error rather than photoshop working incorrectly.

The way Animate handles it is it just creates a duplicate “auto save/recovery” file in the same folder that the file exists in, which it does for every file open. In PS those files are supposed to be somewherein the AppData directory, but PS deletes auto save files if PS doesn’t experience a crash. In TVPaint, a non adobe program I use, the reminder is hooked up to the file itself so when you click between multiple files it will remind you based on the one open, so every 20 minutes or so I get a pop up reminding me to save, which I can also turn off with a “don’t remind me again this session” option.

I don’t know anything about scripting but I’ll hop over there and see if it’s something someone else would be able to do! But this would really help as a feature of PS. The auto recovery does a good job but it doesn’t help if PS doesn’t detect a crash and you haven’t saved in an hour...

I'm dropping back in here to say that the folks over at the PS Scripting forums helped put together a nice work around for this problem, thread is below! Would love to see this become a full on PS feature, though, but this is exactly what I'm looking for.
