Are files worked on with Photoshop CC compatible with older versions of PS?

I am thinking of trying out Photoshop CC on a new laptop, but am not happy with having to make the monthly payments, as I usually stick with one version of PS for a long time and don't upgrade each time Adobe comes out with a new one. If I try it out and work on my files in CC, will I still be able to open them with older versions of Photoshop? I always save the files as TIFFs not PSDs. In other words, is CC backwards compatible and how far back?

Yes, back to Photoshop 3.0.

Any features new to CC may be rasterized when brought into older versions, and some metadata won't be read in older versions.

Thanks very much, that's a relief.
