An auto recovered file is crashing CS6 on startup - possible graphics hardware incompatibility?

Photoshop recently shut down when windows did an automatic update and apparently auto-saved a file I didn't really need, but thanks anyway. Now when I start up I get to the workspace, the recovered file loads, and immediately I get an error message that Photoshop has stopped working and it crashes.

Right before the recovered document loads I also get the "Graphics hardware not supported" dialog. I had this problem in the past and turned off the graphics hardware dialog in preferences and haven't had it since. I wonder if during the windows restart PS somehow reset that and now it's causing problems again?

Is there a way to access those preferences without going through the application itself, or a way to delete the auto-recovered file?
