Adobe has brilliant engineers. Why don't they put that talent into the smart collections. As they are now they are just canned searches. What I need is "smart" searched. Like find me all the developer images that are 8x10 crop or 16x9. That would be really useful for printing. I really don't find the meta data searches that useful because that is before development. I really want more search ability on finished developed images. Did I use external editors. That data should be stored in metadata. I don't want that exported but LR is a database. It should record every external editor called from LR via plugin. Then I could have a smart collection of Tonality Pro mods, Perfect Effects mods etc. Now that would be really helpful.

I agree.

PS - It pays to be familiar with plugins if you have needs/desires not covered natively - there are several that enhance the abilities of smart collections and lib filtering..

PPS - It pays to be familiar with plugin authors if you have needs/desires not covered by current plugins ;-}.

I agree. Smart collections can be smarter and good use of a database.
