ALT Sharpen Mask slider does not work (in LR5, LR6.3) on Windows 7 64 bit PC

Hi
I have a Windows 7 PC (64 bit)
In Lightroom when you are in the develop module, detail module you have the option to mask the amount of sharpening on a photo. When you hold down the ALT key on the slider it shows how much of a mask you are applying to your image (it goes black and white and by moving the slider you can see the amount of effect).

I used to have this problem in LR 4 and 5.7 and also now in LR6.3 on this PC . I just upgraded! I had really hoped it was a bugfix that would have been sorted in LR6 - but no.

I believe it has to do with the 64 bit Windows or LR4 and above because it does work on a different PC which has LR3 and runs on XP Either way I am stuck and I need assistance.

It works as expected here on Windows 10 and worked on Win 7 prior to last month's upgrade.

Have you tried resetting your preferences file?
1. Close Lightroom
2. Hold down [Alt]+[Shift] and launch Lightroom
3. Overwrite the preferences when prompted in the dialog.

After resetting the preferences, does it work as expected?

Hi Rikk
When I Hold down [Alt]+[Shift] and launch Lightroom it does not offer me an option to over write preferences! Any ideas on this point?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled ALT Sharpen Mask slider does not work (in LR5, LR6.3).

Hi
I have a Windows 7 PC (64 bit)
In Lightroom the option to show the mask for the amount of sharpening on a photo by holding down the ALT key on the slider does not work on my PC.

I used to have this problem in LR 4 and 5.7 on the same PC and also now in LR6.3 which I just upgraded from 5.7.
I did post her but I am not getting anywhere as I cannot find the preference file spoken of.

I would really appreciate a resolution to this problem.
Thanks

The instructions for resetting the preference file are contained above. There is no need to find any file. What happened when you followed my instructions above?

Hi Rikk
Thanks for your efforts to help - I have found that the right-side AltGR key works but not the Alt key on the left!! Who knew. What a weird fix. Anyway very happy to have the solution.
