Lightroom: Allow Moving or Copying of Collections into Publish Collections

Currently there is no way to copy a collection (or worse an entire hieararchy of collections and collection sets) into Publish Collections. I usually don't want to manage all of my collection sets as Publish collections but if I later decide to publish a collection I have to recreate it in Publish. There should be a simple way to move or copy that collection into publish, preferably via drag and drop.

I agree Sean!

A quick way for now is to create a folder in your Publish service and set it as the Target Collection. Select all the images in the collection you want to add to the service. Press B. All the images are now in the Publish Service. Remember to turn off Target Collection on that folder when you're done!

Publish Services does need more work though.

I like, though I think the real solution is to allow collections to have publish settings - a in the other FR you created.

At one point I toyed with the idea of completely abandoning Collections and doing everything through Publish. Why not?

Perhaps eventually, but they aren't ready yet. You can do so much more with Collections than Publish Services. Web galleries, Prints, Smart Collections, etc.

And Gene's advice is great, but it doesn't help to recreate a complex set of Collections and Collection Sets. I have never had need of a Publish Service for one or two folders of images. If I want to "publish" it is solely because I have many folders that I want to export at the same time and don't want to have to go through the tedium of "Export" repeatedly. If it's only one folder than Export is just as fast (or faster) than creating a Publish Service.

Ideally, as John suggests, All collections would have publish capabilities, which to me really means that they remember the previously used Export settings. Also required would be the ability to select multiple collections for export at the same time, and they also need to allow hierarchical export (ie. the exported images would be in folders that mirror the collections and collection sets in Lightroom). I realize that I just through out a huge brain dump there, and it's very oversimplified, but I hope you get my point...

TreeSync Publisher (v5.0+) supports selecting a pre-existing collection set or publish service to define the exported folder hierachy, so you don't have to recreate collection hierarchies.
