after updating to LR 9.0/9.1 the mogrify2 plugin doesnt work anymore when using export with previous you get the error  "attempt to concatenate field 'LR_export_bitDepth ' a nil value. When using the regular Export function it works oke. It worked oke with LR classic 8.4.1.

This plugin is not an Adobe product. You will have to contact the plugin author.

Thanks I know this website and also send Timothy a email but the problem started after upgrading LR Classic to version 9.0. So most probably its a Adobe bug just like the other one with the TIFF files from another plugin author. This has been fixed in 9.1.

I'm assuming you're on Windows or Mac OS 10.14 or earlier? Some troubleshooting steps:

- If you first do File > Export (invoking LR/Mogrify2) and then follow up File > Export With Previous, does it work?

- If you reset LR's preferences, does the problem still occur?
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

(I'm wondering if LR or LR/Mogrify2 has remembered an export setting from LR 8 that is incompatible with LR/Mogrify2 in LR 9.  Similar things have happened in the past with export plugins.)

Hi John, thanks for your reply.I'm on Mac OS 10.15.2 and tried your first suggestion -> result same error.
I've reset LR's preferences (should have made a backup before) and lost my registration code and same error occurs.

Have you verified you have the most recent version (5.10)?  Do File > Plug-in Manager and scroll to LR/Mogrify2 to find out which version you have installed.

If you have an older version, try updating to 5.10.  You might try reinstalling even if you're on 5.10.

But note that after installing on Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina), you'll need to do some manual steps, since the developer hasn't made the installation compatible with Catalina's security:

I'm using version 5.10 for a while already and found out the magick part and solved it the same way so that works.

I can't think of any other workarounds or possible solutions, other than hoping the developer eventually responds.

Spoke too soon, of course.  Two more thoughts:

1. Have you completely uninstalled LR/Mogrify2 from File > Plug-in Manager and reinstalled?

2. After reinstalling LR/Mogrify2 in Plug-in Manager, can you create export presets using it that work?

Hi John thanks again for your suggestions.
1) Yes I did, didn't help

2) I made a new preset from scratch works fine if I use regular export option (the screen with all the settings pops-up and press export). But if I use right button "Export Previous" I still get the same error

Yesterday I got an confirmation of this bug on one of the lightroom groups on facebook. So my install isn't whats causing this error. Hopefully someone from Adobe is reading this forum as well.

Good (well, not really) that someone else has the same issues as I am having with export with previous and Mogrify... it started at the 9.0 upgrade and has been the same as others have described here.. Adobes suggestion was a complete re-install of LR to see if that fixed it - I haven't gone that far yet, but sounds like several people have the same issue..

Hopefully Tim Armes has time to look into it from his end soon - in the meantime it just means another step in the export process...

Between this and the latest updates to PS shutting the computer down when the work load increases, I'm wondering if Adobe really have anything to offer the working photographer these days...

Hi Phil, hopefully someone at Adobe will read this and they will test it out themselves so they can easily identify where the problem is originating from.
PS: you write "...been the same as other have described here" but I'm the only one ;-), the rest was trying to help out with a solution.

Hello, I have the same «export with previous» problem. I had the problem with my old computer since it pass to Lightroom Classic 9, last week I bought a new computer. I installed all my applications, it is the same problem. All works well with normal export mode but when I ask to «export with previous», I got this error  : «./LRMogrifyExportTask.lua:85: attempt to concatenate field 'LR_export_bitDepth' (a nil value) (1) plus the image file path»

If you read this thread you can see that this was the first thing I tried but I didn't get any response from Tim Armes. I've never said Adobe is to blame without knowing what is causing this, BUT they can easily check if it's due to something that changed between 8.4x and the 9.0 - 9.2.1 versions or its something in the plugin. With that information I can try to contact Tim again. The strange thing its working when you use the export dialog but not if you use the previous option. Also mulitple photos doesn't work.

Unless something is seriously damaging, it's unrealistic to expect Adobe to devote much effort to problems that only manifest in third party applications. Not long ago another plugin, LrTimelapse, had problems after an update, and the plugin author took it up directly with Adobe once he had pinpointed where the problem lay. Tim would have to do that, or possibly adjust his plugin, so just him again and again until he responds  - I think that's the only way you're going to get anywhere.

When I spoke to Tim the other day, he was aware that some people were having issues on Catalina but tracking down the cause was troublesome.

Victoria, it's also happening on my Windows 10 system so it's not an OSX Catalina issue.

Hi @Victoria, could you pass this important information to Tim. It's not OS related but LR 9.x / Plugin related

I found what may be a related issue with 'Export as Previous.' When using one of my own Export Presets to create a Lossy DNG file with Resize to Fit. The Resize to Fit option becomes unchecked on the 3rd Export. The assumption is that the last used settings should remain, but they only do so for two consecutive exports. On the third export Resize to Fit option becomes unchecked and must be manually reselected. I reset LR Classic Preferences file with no change in this behavior.

I just tested the new release 9.3 and this problem still exists
@Victoria Bampton - Lightroom Queen were you able to contact Tim and give him the details mentioned above so he knows its not catalina related?
