After update "Save" often initiates to "Save as" for no apparent reason

After the most recent update when I work on a file that already has been saved, this happens:

- I hit cmd-s or Save in the File menu
- the "Save as" dialog appears
- hitting enter or clicking save brings up a dialog asking whether I want to replace the file or not.

Previous and expected behavior would be to just save the file without any user input.

There is a similar post here, where somebody also posted a video showing the problem. Could it be that you added at layer between the saves? And could it be that you get a dialog box that advices you to use 'Maximum compatibility'? If so, don't just click away that message, but check the 'Don't show again' box. I believe that should solve the problem. Photoshop can't show you this dialog when it does a 'save' operation (because there are no choices when you save an image like that), so it brings up the 'Save as' dialog to enable you to make those choices.
