In Develop module, as I hit \ key (after / before) LR 7.0 freezes.
After forced shutting down, LR restarts displaying randomly the welcome splash screen, a grey screen, the Develop module with the image I was working on

Hmmmm, I've just switched to Italian and my machine spec is identical... and would you believe it, I can't reproduce it. What kind of settings have you applied? Does it happen every time?  What keyboard layout - I wonder if that could be a factor?

Yes, it happens all the times.
I run some tests. I turned LR to English. My OS is in Italian. I still have LR 6 installed.
My keyboard layout is Italian.
I changed it to English (UK). The \ key should be the one at the bottom right close to the shift key.
It doesn't work. Hitting it, LR answers "no photo selected". Hitting the same key on a blank text page the character is \.
Pls note that LR freezes when I hit the YY command on the tool bar, too.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jeffrey, I have submitted a crash report right now.
I copy here the description, because there is a detail I didn't mention before (my fault, sorry) that can change your view on the problem: I was using the feature on a virtual copy of the original RAW file. The after / before feature works fine on the original RAW file.
So maybe this can put you on the right road to understand what's happening.
And maybe Victoria is interested too in the follow up!
That you so much for your attention, I do appreciate that.
Best, Guido

Here is my report:

The problem concerns the after / before feature.

Description:

- I am working on a copy of the photo. I have: 1 the original RAW file; copy #1; copy #2. I am testing the after / before command on copy #2.

- when I hit the \ key, of when I click on YY icon on toolbar, the system freezes. I get the “rainbow turning circle” and noting happens. I can’t do anything but shutting down LR right clocking the LR icon on the tool bar, force shut down.

- the after / before key works properly when I load the original RAW file

- I tested different keyboard layout (English UK; English USA) with no different results.

- my LR language is Italian; my OS language is Italian. Same behavior if I change LR language to English

I am running LR classic; OS X 10.13; RAM 32 GB; AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB.

Still no joy reproducing it here. Was it specific to that picture, or can you get it to happen on other photos too?

OK folks, problem solved!
It is just a matter of waiting... for LR to display the "before" image.

This takes much longer than expected, so I thought the system was in a loop. It was working for me instead.
The photos I am working with are big (36 MP RAW files) and I have worked a lot of them (lot of local adjustments, brushes, gradients). This may be a reason.
LR takes its time to display the original image. That's it. That’s fine. You just have to know it.

A sentence to summarize the lesson learned: be a Zen LR user and trust the program.

Thank you for your attention.

Generally speaking, I am quite happy with LR7.
