I have several Adobe programs. I have installed new versions. A lot of older versions are unfortunately not automatically removed during installation (except former acrobat files; thank you). Is there an adobe program removing all unnecessary old space consuming adobe files? Several hundred millions Mb are lost because of duplicate files.

That is correct - so you can continue to use the previous version if necessary, and so that you don't lose any customized files you had in the older version.

Updates (minor bug fixes) will install in the same location. But major version changes install independent of older versions.

The same is true of most major desktop applications.
