Photoshop: Adobe Heiti font displays and prints wrong with Photoshop CS4

I am using PS CS4 extended V 11.0.2 with W7 64 bit

The text "Chorgemeinschaft" set in Adobe Heiti Std R font displays and is printed real narrow.

The letter m is as small as letter n, the kerning is awful.

If I open this document with PSE 12 (V12.1) or Indesign CS4 V6.0.6 the program asks for permission to update some text layers ... If I say yes the text will display fine, simillar like any font viewer shows it or if I enter the text in MS Word.

Going back to PS CS4 I will get the same question: Some text layers need to be updated...

I say no and the text displays fine and is printed OK till I need to edit the text.

So the problem seems to be related to PS CS4.

What can I do?

I really like to use the Heiti font. It shall be used for a logo and the font fits perfect, I could not find a substitute which comes close.

Any help or hints are appreciated.

Howdy Michael,

Hmm...I tried this with CS6 and CC and see no problem with "Chorgemeinscaft" in Adobe Heiti on Win7 64-bit. Everything displays fine on both machines.

Now, that said, if PS is asking for permission to update the layer, that means you do not have the font on your machine. Do you have a yellow or gray triangle next to the text in the Text Layer? Can you verify that the machine you are opening this file on does, indeed, contain Adobe Heiti. Also when you open this layer and select the text, what is displayed in the Character Panel and Options Bar for the font name?

If you are missing a font, it's quick possible what you're seeing is a result of font substitution.

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

thanks for your answer. The font is installed on the machine. The problem is on my desktop and the laptop.
Yes, I do have a yellow triangle next to the text in the Text Layer.
When I select the text "Adobe Heiti Std" is displayed as text, options shows R

Indesign CS4 and PSE12 on the same machine recognize the font just fine.
So does MS Word. It looks like, that PS CS4 does not recognize the font although I can select the font. I mean I can scroll thru the fonts and pick Adobe Heiti.

Kind regards,

Michael

I checked the laptop, several version of the font were in different folders. I removed them all and rebootet. Now PS reports the missing font when I open the document. When I allow font substitution the substitued font is totally different.

I installed one of the Adobe Heiti font into the windows\fonts folder
I am back to the above problems, however when I open the document I do not get the error message that the font is missing.

Hi Michael,

If you have a yellow triangle, then you have a missing font. That's what the yellow triangle means. What it sounds like is happening is that your font is being substituted. If you look in your Character Panel or Options Bar when that type layer is active, is the font name [in brackets] or *have an asterix? Both of these mean that the font named is not available on your machine at this time.

If you want, Michael, I can do a web-host screenshare to help you get to the bottom of your problems. I will follow up with message with an email. First, however, are you running any font-management software on your machine? If so, could you retry this with the font-management software turned off?

Thanks,
David

Hello David,
I am not running a fontmanager. I mailed some screenshots to you, so you can see how the font is displayed an wether there is a triangle, asterix or brackets

Kind regards,

Michael
