Hi Everyone,

I'm running on a Mac 10.9.1, today when I went to upload my images in adobe bridge cc and the image downloader window it is showing strange characters. I attached a screen shot of the window. Has this happened to anyone else before? I attempted to look for language settings but it truly does not appear to be a language and more a combination of random characters and fractions....please help! I have a huge photography assignment for Tuesday and no where else online has the answers...help me my fellow designer/photographer/creative enthusiasts.

Thanks!

Ariana

Reboot.
Reset your PS preferences by holding down CMD-ALT-SHIFT on the way into PS.
If you still have a problem, transfer your photos with Finder instead of Bridge.
Can you do your work w/o using Bridge? Are these funky fonts anywhere else besides Bridge?

Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for your response!! I did the reboot of PS and I also reinstalled bridge but the issue is still there.

Do you have any ideas what else I could do?

Thanks so much for your help!

Do the weird symbols show up anywhere else besides the File Copy in Bridge?

In other words can you open up Bridge on a folder of images on your hard-drive and they're ok?

What happens if you copy the images to your hard-drive with Finder and then open Bridge up on them, there?

Hi Steve,

All the other files appear normal, I can open them large and in finder windows. The only issue is with the downloading of the images.

I am afraid to add them to my hard drive and then corrupt the files....please correct me if I'm wrong....

I don’t think copying them from the camera or memory card to your hard-drive would do anything to other files on your hard-drive. I suggest copying them, not moving them, so that the data on the memory card stays the way it is, in case you need to copy them more than once.

Use Finder to copy them, not Bridge. We don’t know where the problem lies, yet, whether the files or memory card are bad or if Bridge is doing something strange, and copying them somewhere else with something other than Bridge should help narrow down where the problem is.

Does Finder see the wrong names for those photos on the memory card or not?
Once they are copied to your hard drive, does Bridge see bad names for the hard-drive copy of your photos or not?

Once the photos are on your hard-drive—everything on your memory card, I’d format the card in your camera and see of new photos have any problem or not.

Reinstall or drag-copy your system fonts.
This is an issue of missing, necessary fonts, in my opinion.

@Hi Steve, I've copied the files from my memory card and onto my desktop and then opened in bridge and the files appear normal. No strange characters, no file name errors - they are okay. It seems the only issue is in the "photo down loader" is there anyway to remove this and re install?

@Hi Rick - thanks for your feedback! Could you please help me understand a bit more on how to identify the core system fonts? I have many other fonts that I've recently acquired and I would not want to lost those in the process.

The only font issue is in the photo down loader window (i.e when you insert the memory card bridge automatically prompts the image download in a new window....this is the only area that the foreign characters are appearing.

Thanks so much everyone!

Since only the downloader is behaving badly you can copy your photos using Finder and skip Bridge, at least for this assignment, until the issue is resolved.

I am a PC person, this this link says it applies to OSes up through Mavericks:

Hi Ariana:
Did you ever get this problem solved?
I'm having the same thing happen, just on Bridges Downloader and it's driving me crazy.

Hey, unfortunately not via Adobe, the tech team and I went back and forth for weeks and they couldn't figure it out. I had to do a complete reinstall of my Mac OSX and then reinstall the creative cloud and that finally worked.

The problem is on the system - either a corrupt font file, or a corrupt OS font cache. Reinstalling the OS would clear up both of those.

Also, it could possibly happen if you ran a MacOS "Cleaner" program (most of which do more damage than good) and it damaged the OS installation.
