A professional working with any software will find it necessary to save different versions of your working file. Files sometimes get corrupted or the file/scene gets modified by mistake and its easiest to open a previous version, or its the only option to recover work.

"Save Next Version" would take the current working file, "Painting_v01", and automatically save it as "Painting_v02".
If the file is named "Painting", "Save Next Version" would add the suffix "_v01". The suffix could be changed in the settings and preferences.

Having access to this feature through a hotkey would allow just a few seconds to be shave off each time a save like this is done, but that all adds up over the course of a year, especially if it becomes standard for all programs by all developers.
