Photoshop: Froze when I added a color swatch to Libraries Panel

All I did is clicking on "add to library" in the color selection dialog box. Photoshop froze up on my Mac. The message was "something went wrong when trying to access the library". After that it was unresponsive. Great! I lost 20 minutes of work. Question: why does photoshop not have a backup safety system like Apple's applications has, that assures you never loose anything in such a case?

Hey Thomas. I just had the same issue. Lost probably half an hour worth of work.. It's ridiculous and outrageous! I have two questions - 1. Since when does PS add the colour to a cloud library and not to your local swatches. WTH?? Cloud Library is prone to freezes like that and is a half-baked product in the first place, why add this functionality? 2. Why in the world there's no mechanism that would look for freezes like that, identify them and do something like a backup in the background and a restart? I don't get this. Adobe has been on the market for decades and their main product which is still an industry standard is a piece of uncontrollable garbage. God..

Does this happen regularly for either of you? It might help the Libraries team to try and collect logs to get more details.

> Question: why does photoshop not have a backup safety system like Apple's applications has, that assures you never loose anything in such a case?>

I have set my Prefs to backup save every 5 minutes, and I rarely ever have lost anything that took me more than a couple minutes to reconstruct. I guess I've just been lucky that it hasn't taken me 20 minutes to set up and reconstruct what wasn't saved during the last 5 minutes, although I do tend to swear a bit anyway.  Some applications backup every keystroke, but that's a pretty big strain on a large graphic file to write to disk with every, what? history state? So each brush stroke, for example, would mean write the file to disk, then undo would mean another write to disk???. . . At least, that's how I think it would have to work so you never lost anything.

As for the Creative Cloud Library, I have noticed that it hangs sometimes and then crashes, and I have developed the habit of opening it and waiting to be sure it's functioning before I try to add anything to it. It's been quite rare on my machine, and usually just says it can't connect, but it has crashed PS a couple of times.

It seems that on my computer, anyway, if it's working when I start a session, it stays working. It's something to do with making that first connection—which can also be awfully slow, unfortunately.  Checking on it to start isn't a solution, I know. I'm only saying the bad connection does seem to come along with being cloud-connected and with what is otherwise, when working smoothly, a convenient way to store files so they're available to all the apps.

If they can't prevent the incomplete connection, if that's clearly what the problem is, maybe they can "time out" the way Firefox will time out trying to connect to a server, and return the app to the user saying "try again"—and no, I don't know anything about programming to know how easy, or even possible, that is. It just sounds reasonable to me.  '-}

Christen, did you submit the crash logs with your email address? I can try and pull them up.

I normally save the Apple Crash report in case a crash happens twice in short succession, but it's only happened a very few times, a fair bit of time apart, and nothing recently, so I expect I called it too random to count. But next time it happens, you've got it.

For me it's pretty rare that PS crashes or becomes terminally unresponsive. And almost never is it a set of steps producing a condition that I can repeat. Between very few crashes and auto recovery, I don't find myself worrying even when a project is fairly complex.

If it happens again, let us know and zip up the logs from here. I can email you and arrange to collect them:

Mac: /Users/<USER>/Library/Logs/CreativeCloud/Creative Cloud Libraries
Win: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Temp\CreativeCloud\Creative Cloud Libraries

I cannot add swatches to my swatch palette without this happening. Photoshop crashes and my entire iMac basically freezes up as well. I've lost a lot of work due to this glitch! It's actually putting my job at risk.

I need a solution to this problem ASAP. How do I disable CC libraries? I do not want to use them for ANY CC programs. Is there a phone number I can call for support? This is outrageous.

I have the exact same issue which has made me lose a bunch of work, and on top of that I can't save swatches so I have to enter the color hex manually everytime.

Is this Sierra again? Because I have no problem adding swatches on either Yosemite or El Cap. To both the panel and the CC Library. I've done so several times.

Running the latest photoshop cc version on win 7 and unable to add a swatch without the program freezing and having to close out in task manager. Fun stuff!

Can you confirm the version of PS and CC desktop app?
For Photoshop, go to Help > System Info... - what does the top line say?
For Creative Cloud, click the gear icon an select Preferences. What does the App Version say?

Is there a progress bar showing when the freeze occurs? Does holding down the esc key release it?

If I had known that it would take so long I would not have tried adding a color to swatches. It is taking forever. And I can't cancel either. I will not try that again.
