Lightroom: Will not export both portrait and landscape oriented pictures as a slideshow video in 720 or 1080

When attempting to export pictures to an HD slideshow video, I noticed that it completely fails to even begin the export at either 720 or 1080.  I am able to export at the lower quality settings, but the pictures are completely blurry.  I read a post that having portrait oriented pictures in your slideshow is causing the problem.  Sure enough, I create a slideshow 720 or 1080 video with only landscape photos and the export works fine.  I then try to create a slideshow 720 or 1080 video with nothing but portrait, and it hangs.  It did this is the version prior as well, as I was hoping the update would fix this.

Thanks for the report. Will investigate. I did a quick test and could not reproduce the issue in my setup. 

Would you be able to export a small catalog with a small number of images that demonstrate the issue? We would like to get a copy of the small catalog along with the photos to investigate. You can use Creative Cloud sync or other online sharing service (like dropbox) and send us the link. Thank you.

Simon, I wonder if this is the Zoom to Fill / Pan and Zoom problem I have previously reported. One of the keys seems to be the inclusion of an image which was originally in landscape format but which has been cropped to portrait. I'm preparing a small catalogue and will contact you off-forum.

Hi Simon - thanks so much for your quick response.  These are high quality JPGs.  I had first attempted to create the slideshow using the RAW NEF files from my Nikon, but then read that might be causing the issue.  So I imported these jpegs into Lightroom, and it still does the same thing here it will not export the slideshow video at 720 or 1080.  So, I was just able to make a movie with iMovie using the same photos but it did take about 45 minutes.  Maybe I am not giving it enough time to create the video?  I don't see any type of progress indicator movement for quite some time (I waited about 10 minutes) and nothing.  The smaller export sizes (under 720) did not have this issue.  Keep in mind - the export works just fine when using the landscape photos only.  Here is the link to the catalog and photos being used.  http://adobe.ly/2cFCJPN

More information - my pictures are all original format.  No cropping or edits have been done to these photos.  I am able to recreate this problem 100% of the time using portrait photos.  I try 1 portrait and 1 landscape, and it hangs permanently at 10%.  I use 2 portraits - the progress indicator won't start at all.  I use landscape only photos - they export with no problem.  Also - not using pan and zoom feature with my slideshow.

We have the same issue. Are there any updates? My tech support case number is  0188261936



It works fine with horizontal images but once we use vertical ones and all files are RAW files (Canon 5D Mark III), the export slideshow as video will not export.

Our workaround: When I export all edited raw files as JPG files first and reimport them to Lightroom and export the jpg slideshow as video, it works.

That's odd, I just tried that and with all images in Landscape it works but with a single Portrait image in that set it looks like it is doing something but just stops.  Definitely looks like a bug to me too. Seems like that was not properly tested at all prior to release.
You may need to edit the title so that it says "Unable to export Slideshow as Video". Not sure you can in fact edit the title but worth a try.

I found another bug. If 'Zoom to Fill Frame' AND 'Pan and Zoom' are selected AND the first image file is Portrait the Export to Video hangs at 0 progress. If the Portrait image is not 1st it hangs with a small progress bar showing. Using either option singly is OK, but not both together!

I have the same problem. Lightroom will not export a slideshow that contains any portrait images. Previous versions of LR did this fine, but the current versions do not. I am a wedding photographer and cannot now use LR to make slideshows for my clients.

I have a slideshow of images set to music that I am trying export. I've tried various video resolutions but I just get the following screen...

It's been like this for over 9 hours today.  Tearing my hair out can anyone help?

I'm on a almost brand new 27" imac running Sierra.

After further experimenting if I remove all vertical images from the slide show it exports fine!

Can adobe fix this please as a wedding photography this is pretty much an essential feature for me!!

This should be fixed in the CC2015.8/6.8 Update. Give it a try and let us know.

Thank you. If it helps it is Fuji RAF files that cause the problem - already converted jpeg images work fine, but it is very time consuming to export and then reimport for every slideshow!

Chris, if you can create a small catalog containing three images with a slide show that exhibits the problem, I would be happy to take a look at it. I cannot reproduce it on my machines since the update.

Rikk, try it with Canon RAW files.... It works with JPG files but not RAW.

It works fine for me with Canon files.  It works with JPEGs as well.  Peter, are you saying you can duplicate Chris's results with Canon files?

Rikk as I mentioned further down in this topics my LR6.8 isn't even able to produce a video with low resolutions jpgs and this on 2 different PC's with different catalogs. If you like I may share a small catalog of the slideshow.

It might be worth noting your screen resolution (Lightroom system info) and Lightroom standard preview size when attaching the small catalog

Rikk, on Windows 7 with LR CC 2015.8 with any of the image files Portrait mode it will output a 720p video OK, but not 1080p video.  This is with 'Zoom to Fill Frame' and 'Pan and Zoom' NOT checked. It fails using two Landscape and one Portrait Canon 5D MKII CR2 files placed in ANY order.

2015.8 has definitely NOT fixed this problem. Looking back through the Adobe forums, this problem has been known about for months and not fixed for months! This functionality is vital to me, so please fix it urgently!

Hi, the same problem here

 

I have tried to export a Slideshow in LR 6.8 and the job stops always after about 10%.

I have tried all different possibilities even with only 3 Landscape pictures , low resolution, low quality, no sound, no  start picture , nothing than 3 pictures , but it still didn't work.

When I want to start the export the first try doesn't do anything.

Only the second try starts but then stops after about 10% without any error message just staying at 10%  level.

Exporting to PDF works fine.

On my Laptop I have an old version LR 5.7.1 and here the video export works fine but with the restrictions of this version 5.7.1.

I am running on PC and on Laptop windows 7 with enough Ram 16 & 8 GB and the latest video drivers,

I have tested in several video resolutions also in 480x270 the smallest one with 3 pictures in low resolution .jpg all in landscape.

Nothing worked.

The same pictures however work for a slideshow export in LR 5.7.1

As export location I tried desktop & external Disk noting worked.

I even tried with a small slideshow collection export Catalog with 3 pictures > didn't work

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC 2015.9 slideshow problem landscape and portrait photos HD.

Still a problem exists when trying to export a slideshow in HD that contains both portrait and landscape shots.  If you exit lightroom and re-open you can export in HD.  if you try to export again it wont work.  Close lightroom and re-open and you can export again.  It is really annoying.  However quality still does not look up to scratch even when it does work.

I just loaded 6.10 windows. Export doesn't work period. I've tried every file type, horizontal, verticle, low or high res. The status bar move approximately 10% then stops. I'm a Lightroom user since day 1 but have not made slide videos. I have used Lightroom for drone video editing.

I noticed, Bruce, that the Open GL test failed. That usually means an incompatible Video Card or outdated driver. Is your video card supported?

Have you checked with your card's manufacturer and made sure you have the most recent driver?

I found another bug. If 'Zoom to Fill Frame' AND 'Pan and Zoom' are selected AND the first image file is Portrait the Export to Video hangs at 0 progress. If the Portrait image is not 1st it hangs with a small progress bar showing. Using either option singly is OK, but not both together!

Lr CC (latest version) running on MBP (late 2016) i7 15", with 5k display, under Mac OS Sierra. Slideshow exports fine to small formats but balks on 720p or 1080p. The progress bar starts moving and within seconds hungs forever. After reading many reports on this I found that turning off GPU acceleration and restarting Lr it exports (at least it did once) but still very slowly.

Interesting.  I have just given this a try again, having followed all the hoohaa about exporting videos of slideshows, and I have successfully exported a 1080 HD video with both Portrait and Landscape images.  I have CC LR Version  2015.10

Slideshow video export fails for me, no matter what files or settings I use, no matter whether there are fresh previews or not. Graphics Processor on or off. Bummer.

There is a bug in the Lightroom Classic CC release as of Dec.2017 where exporting a slideshow video hangs.  I posted the problem to forums website and Simon Grosset discovered the problem involves portrait mode images.  My failing example had ONLY portrait mode images.  Here is the thread in forums:  https://forums.adobe.com/message/10078849#10078849
