Camera Raw/DNG: Adobe DNG Converter Embeds Incorrect Camera Profile

DNG Converter (I am using 9.8 but it did this earlier as well) appears to always load into the converted .DNG file one of the custom .dcp profiles available for the camera in the ...\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles directory.  The only way I have found to make it load the default profile (which I assume is Adobe Standard) into the .DNG file is to delete all custom profiles for the camera from that directory.  That's a pain because I then need to put them back in there whenever I do want to use them with ACR.

I think it would make more sense for DNG Converter to load the default (Adobe Standard?) profile by default, and a custom one as an option.  Here is a discussion on the issue with examples.

Thanks

The "default profile" is whatever one you have set for the camera as the default in ACR.   There is no "assuming" necessary, it's whatever the default is set to, which is Adobe Standard but you may have changed it.

You might want to reset your camera raw defaults or at least redo the default profile after you've loaded one of the DNGs.  Resetting to factory defaults or saving the current settings as the new default can be done with the menu accessible with the triangle at the right of the title area of the sliders at the right.

Steve, please see my comments at this post: https://forums.adobe.com/message/9216474#9216474

On  my Windows 7 system Adobe DNG Converter 9.8 assigns the topmost Alpha-Numeric sort camera profile name in the 'User' folder where my LR and ACR "default" profile is located. This is NOT the LR or ACR default profile, but instead the  topmost Alpha-Numeric sort camera profile in the 'User' folder. It appears something is wrong with the profile selection code routine.

Hopefully Sandy will get it fixed.

Great. Does Sandy work on DNG Converter?  If so I would like to suggest this mode of operation: load the Adobe Standard profile by default; and have an option to choose a custom one from a location of one's choice.  Also add a switch for the option in command line mode.

Thanks,
Augusto

The DNG Converter should use the default profile, that's all.  No need to get fancy, it should just be fixed to work properly.
