Camera Raw/Lightroom: Support for PhaseOne Trichromatic

I use a medium format system produced by Phase One, with their newest "Trichromatic" sensor -- a CFA unique to this sensor. With each passing update to Adobe Camera Raw (there have been three since this camera was released) I grow a little more desperate as it becomes clearer and clearer Adobe doesn't seem to have any sense of priority regarding raw developmentfor this camera system.

It's awkward on set and has unbalanced my post production workflow, not to be able to access raw data for my main work camera. Exporting TIFFs and PSDs from Capture One can only get me so far, and instances where I need raw data (like bracket stacking to HDR) it's not possible to obtain a quality match of real raws, since TIFFS and PSDs are merely instances of those files not containing all the data.

I understand the fractional volume of these systems on the market probably plays a role in how Adobe prioritizes ACR development...but it's a top tier professional system, and it really surprises me that over the past nine months Adobe hasn't figured out how to make heads or tails of these raws. I know the Adobe and Phase One teams have a communicative working relationship...so does anybody have insight or info on what might be causing the delay?

Pity that Phase One doesn't support dng in camera as it would give you out-of-the-box support.

Hi Richard,

Sorry these trichromatic image files aren't working correctly for you. In our testing thus far, sample files are opening just fine.

Are the files not opening in Camera Raw or rendering incorrectly?
Which version of Camera Raw do you have installed?

Can you provide more info on what's not working for you, perhaps even provide a sample file or two for me to pass on to our engineers for further testing so we can investigate this?

Provide more information about your workflow, and what steps we can try to reproduce the issue you're seeing, and we'll see what we can do.

Get back to us when you can.
Regards,
Pete

Richard, the most recent ACR update, 10.4, has preliminary support for this camera.

Gents, on behalf of the Phase One army, THANK YOU! I'd buy you a beer if I could :-) Any idea on when we might find this implemented in Lightroom as well? It seems to have its own discreet version of ACR, 10.4 doesn't recognize the files there...

Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC did a release at the same time with the same support. You can see the versions required at the top of the page here:

Thanks Jeffrey, It wasn't registering in the CC app until I restarted the service. All works perfectly now!
