Adding sub keywords in Bridge 4 also adds parent

In Bridge 4.0.5.11, and I think every previous version I have an issue when adding keywords. I have many keywords in subfolders- so folder would be say Place- NYC neighborhoods-Landmarks and sub keywords would be Brooklyn, or Central Park, or whatever. When the main “Places” folder is open, but not checked, and I check Brooklyn, keyword is written as Brooklyn, but later, I see all of a sudden Place- NYC neighborhoods-Landmarks, has gotten checked, and keywords show up as Place- NYC neighborhoods-Landmarks; Brooklyn.

I can uncheck Place- NYC neighborhoods-Landmarks, and it disappears from image, only to reappear later. I can do this over & over, but behavior repeats. I haven’t sat & watched it, but in using Bridge on other files or going to another program & returning, I find unwanted boxes rechecked. When file is opened in CS5, and I look at file info, both keywords are there, so it is not just a glitch in Bridge- they both get written to XMP file.

This happens on Nikon NEF files, with XMP sidecars, but does not seem to happen with DNG files.

Any ideas on how to stop this from occurring?

I changed Bridge preferences to not automatically apply parent keyword, but still get parent keywords. I uncheck boxes, and a few minutes later, they are back!

I also have United States as a keyword, yet it shows up as united States (lowercase U). No matter how many times I select image, uncheck the United States keyword, it clears, then re-add it with leading caps, it later reverts to lower case u (see screen grab)

Ah, here's a clue, I think? After making changes in Bridge, I then go back to Lightroom to save changes always- keywords or raw processing- I get the message "this photo has been changed in an external application...", I click cancel, see up arrow on image, click on it, get message "The metadata for this photo has been changed by another application. Should Lightroom import settings from disk or overwrite...", and I click import settings from disk (from Bridge), which it does & then save changes to LR.

But, when I go back to Bridge, instead of Lightroom leaving Bridge alone, it seems like it has changed keywords to images which I then see in Bridge somehow, which is the opposite of what I am asking LR to do. Have no idea why that would be, as I never add or change keywords in Lightroom. Could there be a setting in LR that touches keywords even though I am telling it the opposite?

Thanks.

One more thing, I just tested it, and saving in Lightroom also messes with DNG files keywords the same way. Very frustrating as I want to save raw development work into Lightroom, so I can make websites, but hate to ruin work done on keywording session.

No one else has ever experienced this keyword issue? Am I missing a simple setting somewhere?

I am unable to add keywords to my images, which is a big problem for me.

Thanks.
