I love that Lightroom can now catalog videos, but previewing them is cumbersome. Users should be able to quick look videos just as the can in the finder, without having to open their respective video player app.

In essence that would mean writing an entire video player directly into LR, wouldn't it? Given the number of formats and codecs, that sounds like a pretty big task.

I'm no expert on how to build native mac apps, but doesn't the OS handle the file playback if it's using quick look? The main suggestion I'm making with this feature request is that you should be able to select a movie in the Lightroom library module, hit a keyboard shortcut, and it should pop open in the default mac 'quick look' interface.

You're probably right though, that playing the videos directly inside the thumbnail area or loupe view would be challenging. it just is frustrating - the video management functionality seems half-assed at this point, but at least there's SOMETHING there : )

I don't know what a "quick look" interface is. Maybe it's a mac-only thing.

yes, with quick look the video playing is handled by the OS..
Mac only, i'm afraid..

another (maybe) simple solution could be creating an animated preview of, say, 5/10 frames to loop on mouseover.. that would give a better idea when a lot of videofiles are involved..
