Photoshop: Select brush when adding a layer mask in Layers panel

The layers panel has the icon at the bottom to add a layer mask. It would be helpful if when you click on the add layer mask, that this would also change your current tool to the brush tool and change your foreground color to black.
Reason being:
When you (I) add a layer mask, 90-99% of the time you will next want to paint on the mask, most often hiding part of it. Therefore using black.
So when adding a layer mask using the icon this would save two more steps:
selecting the brush tool and changing your foreground color to black.

Little things like this can speed up ones workflow. A bunch of little things add up.Thats why programable keyboard short cuts and actions are to useful.
(I know I could create an action for this and assign a "F" key, but "built in" would be better, and I'm running out of "F" keys / options)
