Lightroom CC no longer allows me to 'Add' images direct from memory cards.

Using 'Add' for images on a memory card would mean they are not transferred from the memory card to another storage, but only added to the catalog. That is obviously a very bad idea and that's the reason it has never been possible (or at least not for a very long time) and definitely should not be possible.

I disagree. What if you archive your images with your own system and don't want it managed by Lightroom? What if you don't have time to wait for the images to copy before you can start editing them? Why should Lightroom allow you to 'Add' from an external drive but not let you treat an XQD card, or similar, in the same way? Just because you work in that manner doesn't mean everyone should have to. I used to be able to do this and there should be a preference setting that allows you to choose. I am not alone in this and see numerous queries about this lack of functionality across the web.

You can disagree with Adobe’s decision to protect people against irretrievable mistakes, but the fact remains that this is why it has been impossible for a very long time to use ‘Add’ when importing from a memory card. And why it is extremely unlikely that they will change their mind about this.
