Add auto-fade to brushes

Add an auto-fade option to brushes and tools that allow Edit->Fade. This could be a small popup dialog with enable checkbox, blend mode, and amount.

The effect would simply be to automatically apply that fade, the same as if the user did it manually, after each brushstroke. If you keep it simple then you aren't likely to break anything.

This would help with tools that can be faded but that have limited adjustments. Example would be the Healing Brush, which doesn't have a Fill or Opacity setting. Using auto-fade to 50% normal would not be exactly the same, but would give much greater control.

Yes it would impact performance but much less than manually applying a fade after every brushstroke.

why would you want the healing brush to fade?

and healing does have fill/opacity settings when using a layered workflow...

It was an example, I would want it because I want it, and using a layered workflow is NOT the same thing or anywhere close.

Do you have anything useful to contribute to this suggestion?

I can see what you're talking about. I do use a layered workflow wherever possible, but it's not always all that possible with all the healing tools. What I'm wondering is if it would really speed things up all that much. It's more convenient than calling up the Fade dialog every single stroke or patch, but I reckon I'd still be wanting to adjust more than a one-time fade setting. So I'd be right-clicking and resetting rather often.

I'm not thinking this is a bad idea. Nice to have features that can prevent us from tediously repeating something manually. But I would be surprised if Adobe took you up on it any time soon, since they can also say that they've offered other workflows to help productivity, and that like me, they see that a fade in one area with one patch and/or stroke might not be the right amount next stroke or patch—so iffy on the time savings?  The Fade dialog at least comes with a live preview.

Doesn't hurt to ask, of course, but I sure do have other things I want them to take care of more, so I'll have to pass on voting for it. Sorry.
