Photoshop: Indicator for active selections

How about this: A marquee selection toggle light.

A light turns on when a selection is made. This could be located on the tool palette near the selection tools, or on the info panel.

This solves the problem of having a selection that prevents you from painting without knowing it. Without it, one must check 10 different features before realizing that is the problem.

I think hitting command-D should not be the 10th thing you try if painting fails.

I would agree, but its a mistake that I have seen people do for years and years. Command-D is quick, but not intuitive.

I think the »Edit in Quick Mask Mode«-button in the Tools Panel or something next to it might be a good place for such an indicator.
