Camera Raw: Support openEXR

I use Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) to tone map HDR photos, but I feel that support of HDR in ACR and Bridge is limited compared to working with camera raw files (i.e. NEF).

I would really like an option for Adobe Camera Raw to treat .hdr and .exr files like camera raw files (i.e. sidecar file support for ACR adjustements. Open in ACR via Bridge)

As of now I can make global adjustments to an .exr and save the setting as a generic file; however, it does not save local adjustments like gradients, spot removal, etc. I also want to be able to save snapshots of my edits in ACR like I can for camera raw files.

Currently to save all my edits of an .exr file requires that I save my project as a 32bit PSD or .tiff which generates file sizes in the hundreds of MBs as opposed to a saving my edits in a sidecar file for an .exr that is 50MB. or less.

Thank you!

I suggest converting your EXR/HDR files to TIFF which you can then open in ACR and treat like a linear scene-referred raw file for the purposes of tone mapping and image rendering.
