Camera Raw: How do I reinstall ACR 7.3?

Hi,

I just installed LR4.4RC and Camera Raw 7.4RC. Due to a serious bug in the 32 bpc tif file rendering I have to uninstall the RCs and reinstall the production versions of LR and ACR.

But https://www.adobe.com/support/downloa... does not provide a download to ACR 7.3. And https://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjour... says that ACR 7.3 has to be installed with the PS update facility.

After deleting ACR 7.4RC from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats" I went to PS CS6 and invoked the update. PS does not find the missing ACR 7.3

This means: I can no longer work with RAW files in PS CS6 !

Please advice how I can reinstall ACR 7.3.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi,

I just found this link:

https://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/20...

Downloaded and installed this version of ACR 7.3

At the end I got an error message and the log file says:

Photoshop Camera Raw 7.3
Installation failed. Error Code: U44M2P7

Please advice.

Thanks.

Best regards

Manfred Schneider

BTW: Why it is so complicated to find an offline version of ACR? Is this user friendly?

The release ACR 7.3 is supposed to be Adobe-Controlled not User-Friendly. The RC is not user-friendly at all, so you're supposed to know what you're doing, like making backup copies of the plug-ins before you install it.

If the installer doesn't work to revert back, you can manually extract, rename and replace the CR7.3 plug-in files from the ZIP over the top of the ACR 7.4 RC plug-in files.

There are two files, named 101 and 102 or 102 and 103 or something like that recognizable by their size, that you will find inside other zips within the setup.zip you downloaded from the blog link. These are the CR plug-in files for 32-bit and 64-bit which you can rename and place in the proper locations. I am not at a computer that can look up these locations for you, at the moment. The existing plug-in files will be called "Camera Raw.8bi" and be under C:\Program Files and Program Files (x86) I think, with the x86 having the 32-bit programs and the other having the 64-bit programs.

Hi Steve

thanks for the quick reply and the hints.

This is what I have done:
- reinstalled the broken ACR 7.4 RC
- unzipped ACR 7.3
- unzipped "Adobe Camera Raw 7.3 Windows Setup\payloads\AdobeCameraRaw7.0All-x64-291112105039\Assets1_1.zip"
- renamed file "1002" to "Camera Raw.8bi"
- copied this file to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS6\File Formats"
- started PS and it seems to work, even with my old 32 bpc tif files

One question: beside the plugin file, ACR consists of profiles. Now i am working with ACR 7.4 RC profiles and the ACR 7.3 plugin file. Does this wok correctly? Are the ACR 7.4 RC profiles compatible to the ACR 7.3 profiles?

Still I think there is a bug and/or a missing procedure. How can I revert a newer ACR version to an older one? Like in my case, after installing ACR 7.4 RC the ACR 7.3 installer stopped with the error message:

Photoshop Camera Raw 7.3
Installation failed. Error Code: U44M2P7

From my point of view, Adobe should fix this bug as well as provide a proven path how to downgrade ACR

Thanks for your help.

Usually the installer log files have more information than just an error code.
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite...

When I try your scenario, get the same error, and look at the logs, I see:
02/26/13 14:55:29:140 | [WARN] | | OOBE | DE | | | | 18428 | DW016: NOTE: Cannot set action to the payload Photoshop Camera Raw 7_7.3_AdobeCameraRaw7.0All 7.3.0.0 {088691E4-0205-41CB-B073-4907FDF16D8E} as it is already upgraded by the payload Photoshop Camera Raw 7_7.4_AdobeCameraRaw7.0All 7.4.0.0 {83E9F2B8-2423-4644-AB19-BC3C22C567D3}

So it seems like you can't downgrade a plug-in with a patch-installer. That is not necessarily unexpected. Normally a patch can't be downgraded by merely installing an older version of the patch. In this case you probably have to uninstall PS and then re-install PS then update to ACR 7.3. It seems like alot of work, but that is how installers usually work.

Of course the easiest thing to have done would be save the plug-ins and profiles manually.

The profiles should be the constant from one install to the next unless Adobe finds an error and corrects things, which rarely ever happens. Sometimes they issue a new and improved profile with a new version number, but then you can see both the old and new profile in the dropdown. The profiles for the new cameras in ACR 7.4 RC will be new but the rest should be the same subject to the above caveats.
