Lightroom Classic: About 1 in 10 photos from Lr Mobile fails to properly sync

About 1 in 10 of the DNGs from Lr Mobile fails to sync into Classic like this:

Hovering the exclamation mark gives a tooltip: "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo.". Clicking either the exclamation mark or the sync icon gives the same error in dialog box form.

Some diagnostics:
  • The missing photos are present in Lr Web.
  • Deleting %LocalAppData%\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata and waiting for Classic to resyc doesn't fix the problem.
  • If you download the original DNG from Lr Web, replace the faulty DNG in Classic's Lightroom CC ecosystem image folder and restart Classic, the photo appears and works perfectly.
  • I haven't synced enough JPEGs to know if they are affected or not.
  • Lr Mobile 3.4 on Android 6 (although the mobile end seems to be working fine).
  • Lr Classic 7.3 on Windows 10.

Hi Laura,

Are you able to consistently reproduce this issue ? Is there anything faulty with those images ?
Can you try it on a new catalog and check if the issue still persists ?

Also, can you please explain the workflow you have followed when you encountered this issue ?

It's happened on 2 of 2 syncs so far - I've only been back to using Lr Mobile for two days. So I'll have to wait a while to be able to let you know if it happens every time. I would prefer not to try it with a new catalog, because I don't want to have to resync the 7,000 Smart Previews I already have synced with the cloud - am I right that's what will happen if I set up a new synced catalog temporarily? If we run out of other options to try, I'll do that though!

Here's my workflow:
  • Shoot a bunch of DNGs with the Lr camera on Android.
  • Let them sync up with CC.
  • Open Lr Classic, let it sync with CC.
There appears to be nothing faulty with the images that are available in Lr Web. If I download the DNGs from Lr Web, Classic will import them fine. Alternatively I can overwrite the synced files outside of Classic, reload Classic and they also work fine.

Would you like to wait until I've been shooting with Lr Mobile a few more days to see how frequently it happens, before we pursue this?

Hi, just an update - it's repeatable but doesn't happen every time. But it happens most times that I sync about a dozen photos.

Same problem here. Syncing from mobile. I can see all pics on the web but not in Lightroom. Is Adobe working on this issue?
