It would be great to have the ability to use parts of the current name of a file a part of the new name.
Example: Before importing my files from the camera, they are named like this: "_DSC1234.NEF"
I rename them to YYYYMMDD_XX_1234.NEF where YYYY is the year, MM the month, DD the day of month, XX a sign for the used camera and 1234 the former!! number of the original camera file.

Because I allways delete the original files only when I'm sure that the imported and renamed files are not corrupted, there is still a link ( the original 4 digit number ) from the old to the renamed file. This way you can match them.
This is very helpful in case of file access problems.

So the only thing which is missing in LR is to include a part (lets say eg. digit 5 to 8) from the current filename.

This must be very easy to be implemented and is very helpful during the import worklow.

You realize Lr has native support for 'Original number suffix' in file rename settings, no?, e.g.

If that don't get it, then consider the FileRenamer plugin:

(I wrote it, and it's free)

Hi Rob,
thank's for your advice !
I wasn't aware of this LR function, it works fine !

By the way, your renaming tool is nice, too.

I saw that you offer a lot of plugin's.
I will have a clother look in the next days.

Thank's again.
