Ability to "watch" and index folders that are user selectable: If Lightroom could have the ability in the preferences to "watch" certain folders and automatically add image files to the LR catalog like Picasa does (minus any exact duplicate image files), this would be an extremely helpful feature. I use Picasa specifically to find image & video files that have either been moved, misplaced, or forgotten on old hard drives/thumb drives. This feature would be turned off by default as it would obviously take up more computer resources & the user wouldn't want this on while working on images. But something you can turn on & let it index while not working in the catalog, i.e. overnight.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but Lr does have the ability to "watch" a folder and automatically import any files that get added there. More info can be found here -

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/hel...

In addition to that, any folder you've already added to Lr can be synced by simply right-clicking on the folder and choosing "Synchronize Folder". That will go through and tell you files that are missing, allow you to import new files that are in that folder and index/sync up the metadata.

The best way to avoid having those moved, misplaced, or forgotten files though is to manage, move, & maintain everything in Lr. If you do that, your misplaced/orphaned file issues will disappear!
