Photoshop: A toggle to select mask over layer in default layer select behavior

I often select layers by ctrl(move tool) + right click.
In some projects mostly what I paint on is the mask of a layer (Solid Color or texture layers for instance).
By default Photoshop selects the actual layer data and not the mask which I think it should.

Request: Could there be a setting to toggle to select the mask when you just select the layer (right on the label) or through the right click-menu?

Thanks for the suggestion. Note: You can use cmd/ctrl + \ to quickly select the mask once the layer is selected.

Thanks for the answer! This ought to do fine!

What is the name of this keyboard shortcut item and under which kb shortcut section?

Dashes shortcuts are different in Scandinavian kb layouts.

Thanks!

You can see the shortcut by selecting the layer with the mask and looking in the channels panel. The mask will be listed there with the shortcut.

Thanks for the answer!

Ctrl + \ cannot be struck on Scandinavian kb layouts. \ is entered via Alt Gr + '+'-key ("...,8,9,0,+,... "). Trying this with Ctrl will zoom as the Alt Gr seems to be dropped and this key is '+'.

I assume the shortcut is hard coded or otherwise not configurable?

Wacom express key programmings are current input language-sensitive so only way is to work in PS in English kb layout.

It was worth a try ;-) Thanks for reading!
