I would like to request official support for a Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80mm 1:3.5-5.6 D lens. It's an older kit lens, so it's fairly common, compatible and in use with modern cameras, and in need of every possible correction you can come up with. Thanks.

Hi Tatu,

We don't have an official profile, and given the age of this lens we may not be able to supply one anytime soon. You do have some options.

1. Download the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader (see link below) and search for a user-generated profile for this lens.
2. Download the Adobe Lens Profile Creator and use it to generate your own profile (see link below).

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/dig...

Another option is to create presets of manual distortion corrections via the Lens Corrections panel's Manual tab. This is not as convenient as a dedicated profile, but will allow you to correct some of the barrel distortion at the wider end and any pincushion distortion that may affect the telephoto end of the lens.

You can combine manual vignette corrections in your presets as well.

Hope that helps,

- Chris

That is very informative. Thanks!
But when I read the instructions, my head started spinning.
I'd gladly pay for Adobe or someone else to do the job for me.

Allow me to suggest the following: Publish an official list of all the lenses without profiles. Let people pay a few bucks to move their favorite lenses upwards on the list. Every day, an Adobe engineer creates official profiles for the top three lenses. How does that sound?

I entirely understand that these things take time and that of course adobe needs to stay on top of the most current technology and that this is very much of priority however as previously stated this kit has been around for quite a while now and during that entire time you haven't managed to create a lens profile for it? this is an official Nikon lens, a brand who surely aren't releasing that many lenses annually?

surely these top brands should also take priority instead some of the much smaller brands on the stock list of lens profiles. This is software that is people, including myself are paying an arm and a leg for in as it should be the industry standard for editing software. it shouldn't take a community to have to create relatively essential content for adobe.

Hi Greg,

This specific lens was (IIRC) discontinued several years before we introduced the lens corrections feature. Sourcing discontinued lenses for profiling is opportunistic, and I/we generally try to retroactively acquire as many as possible in order to fill gaps like this. In some cases, I am able to rent or get approval to purchase them used. In other scenarios I have actually borrowed lenses from friends and family to reach the goal of supporting as many profiles as possible in ACR and Lightroom. This lens is on my backlog, and I hope to get to it in the future, but I cannot guarantee that until I am able to procure it, build the profile, and submit it for testing.

Regards,

- Chris
