Photoshop: A change in how to make different font sizes in the same text layer?

Hello. I just upgraded from Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended to Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 20.0.6. I am working on a 2017 5K iMac running Catalina.

I don't know if this is one of the current issues with Catalina, or if some change has been made which I am not aware of.

In CS6, I could create a text layer, and then change the font size of different parts of the text, simply by selecting that portion of the text, and then entering a new point size in the box. The font size of the selected text would automatically change to the new size as soon as I entered the new font size in the box.

However, with CC 2019, this no longer appears to work. Now, I have to enter the new font size in the box, and then hit my return key first before the size change takes effect.

So is this really the new way of doing things in Photoshop, or is this one of the known Catalina bugs? I hope it is not the new way, because in my view, it is a backstep.

On a side note, is there any projected date for fixing the file naming bug?

Thanks in advance.
