Lightroom? "Visualize Spots" is selectable, but unusable with offline files that don't have smart preview.

I tried editing an offline file that I thought had a smart preview. I hit Q to use the healing brush. The brush options were greyed out, but I could click and select "visualize spots" (though nothing would happen) and I could click and drag and see that "add spot removal" appears in the history state (though nothing happens to the image and it only works for a click and drag operation, not a simple click). As it turns out, I actually didn't have a smart preview. Ideally these options wouldn't be available with an offline file and no smart preview (or it would be nice if it were very obvious that the file had no smart preview). Easy to avoid now that I know about this, but could be confusing to some users.
