"Import from another catalog" crashes:

My configuration: Onle large catalog (77000 photos) on my main laptop

Want to import a really small catalog (just the photos from one vacation ~ 2000 photos)

When import starts there is a message saying that its checking for duplicate photos - this takes more than 12 hours, then it crashes and photos are not imported.

Laptop iself is rather powerfull (Windows 8, Intel i7-3610QM CPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD + 1TB hard drive, catalog resieds on SSD - 195 GB of unused disk space on ssd)

Maybe it is running out of memory? Or who knows exactly.
You might try exporting your 77000 catalog to a new catalog and importing the small catalog into that copy. Don't export any previews or digital negatives when you're creating the copy of the big catalog.
You could try importing the big catalog into the small catalog.

It does not seem to run out of memory when checking the Ressource Monitor in Windows.

Neverthelss tried the export - really did fix the Probllem - no Crash and the whole Import just takes a few minutes... Weird, but did help! Thanks! (Did. Regularly a Catalog optimzation in the past, Lightroom Never complained about an inconsistency in the Database...)

Thanks

Claudio

Update: Solution was only temporary: After using the catalog for just one day, the same problemn occurs again - Import preparation takes forever and finally crashes. Exporting the whole catalog each time is not an option, anybody experiencing similiar problems?
