Lightroom Classic 7.2: Hopelessly slow in a number of functions (typing keywords)

I am experiencing on-going issues with LRClassic CC 7.2.
It often will not open up, when I finally get it, it takes for ever to many functions. Often when typing in keywords and descriptions/captions  it will leave the first few letters out (even whole words), it then takes sometimes a minute of more to "process" them. And so it goes on.

Have you checked out LrClassic CC 7.3 to see if it addresses the issue?

Yes, that was my error, I am using 7.3. Sorry. And no, that is where I'm experiencing really annoying issues.

Just out of curiosity because I also experience these lags, but mostly when I type in location metadata:

Do you add keywords/captions to a batch of images, or just one?

Do you have "Automatically write changes into XMP" enabled in Catalog Settings / Metadata?

Does it get better if you turn it off?

Thanks for your q's.
Problem seems to be in batches or individual image keywording and captioning.
"Auto write ...XMP" is turned off. Haven't tried it turned on.

And also another one of the many issues (just happened again) is the whole system just locks up periodically. Need to go through the Task Manager computer system to close it and then start again. What a pain.
Tried talking to Adobe a week ago, unfortunately when on the line, the problems wouldn't happen and they didn't seem to want to do a check of the whole box and dice.

This may be a long shot, but did you recently check your hard disk? I've seen things like that in the past when my hard drive was beginning to disintegrate. Most recently, a 4 y/o SSD drive failed. Nothing else was affected but Lightroom. Apparently, the continued r/w operations to its catalog caused some "wear" on the SSD drive.

Some people have experienced slowth adding metadata when LR is running compute-intensive activities in background.  See if any of those activities are running and pause them, as described here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/10273267#10273267

Thank you again. Have all the 3 functions in top left corner (CC, face detection etc) paused, seems to be using 35% CPU. Am I looking at the right thing?, and if so, that's way above the 5-10% suggested when doing nothing, any suggestions? Could that show the problem?

Yup, that's what should be paused. 35% is high for an "idle" LR.

Thanks for that. Anything I can do to address that?

A few others have reported on the forums seeing higher-than-usual CPU with none of the usual background activities running. I don't recall seeing any solutions or information about what was causing it.  Something an Adobe engineer would have to look at, I think, to figure out what's going on...

Try pause the Lr mobile sync and relaunch Lr. What is the CPU usage after that? Can you copy-n-paste the Lightroom system info text (Lightroom>Help>System Info...) for us to take a look?

Thanks Simon, actually the mobile synch has become useless. It seems to be reverse on the process . My last attempt saw my mobile being loaded up with some thousands of images. I had to interrupt and stop it. So it is turned off.
