You can re-enable the 3D OpenGL Visual Overlays by menu > View > Show > 3D ...

Or in 3D Panel at the bottom the first icon "Toggle misc 3D extras" will turn these same items on/off

If this does not help then we will need to gather more info.

First of all, you'll need to have OpenGL turned on in your preferences. To do this, open the preferences dialog (Mac: Command-K, Win: Ctrl-K). Click on the Performance option on the left side of the dialog. Make sure the "Enable OpenGL Drawing" setting is checked. Click OK, then restart Photoshop for this setting to take effect.

If you're still unable to see the 3D widget, make sure you have a 3D layer selected and one of the 3D tools active. Then, go to View > Show > 3D Axis.

That would be a completely different issue, and should go in another topic.

I've done all of the above and the widgets still do not work. All of the settings are correct. This problem appeared overnight. I've never had a problem until now.

Try changing the Render Settings Quality back to 'Interactive'. By 'little graph' do you mean the blue squares that step thru during Ray Traced rendering? Does this happen with a simple 512px cube, too?

Thanks for the reply. I've done that countless times. None of the 3D widgets will work. All of the widgets ie: Axis, Ground Plane, Lights and Selection are indeed checked but they just show up so I can use them. I've tried everything that's been suggested but to no avail.

email me - daniel at adobe dot com your system info (Help > System info ) and we'll dig further into the issue.

If this just started happening then something has changed in your environment(OS, driver etc) We can figure this out.

Hi Ed,

You have the ATI 11.3 driver installed and it along with 11.4 have proven to be problematic. Can you uninstall the driver 8.831.2.0 and then install the 11.2 driver to see if this resolves the issue?

That's the updated 11.4 version which Daniel pointed you too by mistake ;-) Downgrade that version to the 11.2 version and see if that makes things better.

Good to hear, and glad we could help. We'll try to post an update in a few places when ATI is able to fix the drivers.

Hi Ed,

ATI/AMD released an update that fixes the problem with GPU features becoming unavailable. You can find it here:

I have a similar problem but instead of not being available, it is just not rendering during edits. So if I am meshing a sphere, it is totally black (or illumination color). I have a project that I had started a few months ago, it now is almost impossible to edit because the Bump and the Opacity maps are not view able. The animation will not render either with the settings that I setup on the 3d layers.
