3D problems with PS CS6

When doing 3d extrusions, from a custom shape layer, sometimes I get black "shapes" that appear on the front inflation . For instance, if I change the front inflation to white, I will get these oddly shaped bits of black that will not take the new color. I have had to add a layer above the 3d layer and paint over the odd bits.

Also, I have to save every three adjustments, because I know PS is going to fail quite often, approximately 1 per hour.

My computer is 1 year old, has 16GB RAM, 1GB GPU MAC

Have you installed all the updates for Photoshop?
You should be on 13.0.4 or 13.1.2.

And how is Photoshop "failing" on your system?

same problem here. I installed cs6 trial and latest update. In some cases after merging two 3d objects into one scene random shape changes its color to previously applied and there is no way to change it to any other color. (color of diffusion).
And yes, CS6 trial crashes on all my PCs with Win8 64 and Vista 64.

The trial download is just 13.0.0 unless you install the updates.

Also, 3D is heavily dependent on your video card - you may need to update the video card driver from the GPU maker's website.

I have 13.0.1 and there is no update via Photoshop update or Adobe Application Manager.
I want to add that after merging I am not able to change any materials property of any object in a scene.

here is a file:

I am not able to change the color of the ceiling from red to white. I actually can't change any materials of the walls, floor and curtain.

You have 2 objects named ceiling in the 3D layer (one inside the sofa group, one outside).

The wall and window have some duplication of objects - but they also have a texture file, not just a solid color.

And when I change the material colors or move objects in Photoshop CS6 - no problems (other than the fact that I need a much faster video card on this machine).

Right, I had to create second ceiling because I was not able to change the color of the first one (and there is no way to delete it.) Then PS crashed and the first ceiling got inside sofa group, which is mystery to me...
When I touch second ceiling or the wall with the picture the wall becomes red. I tried it on 2 PCs.
I guess I need a more powerful video card. I have Nvidia 260M and it's old. But another one is most recent from Intel (Though purposely designed for notebooks) Oh well, I need to get more machine power I guess...

The walls can't become a color - because they have texture maps, not solid colors.
And I cannot reproduce the problems you are seeing.

Please take a look at these screen captures illustrating that selected wall material diffusion is set yellow, there is no map attached and the "wall is red".
