2015.5.1 select and mask

The 2015.5.1 select and mask seems to have a different glitch now other than making a decent selection. If you use it on one selection and than choose another layer or file for select and mask. The refine edge brush doesn't work at all. you need to restart PS to make another select and mask selection.

I need to add a comment to this. I am a person who adjusts to change extremely well but I must say that the changes to the refine edge tool in PS CC SUCK. When I go to mask out a foreground to replace a backgrouund it does not work. I get bleed on the foreground image and it makes the workflow much longer and more difficult than it needs to be.

I too am having MAJOR ISSUES with Select and Mask. I am an ACI and ACE in Photoshop, and teach it to professionals in the industry. I've used Photoshop since version 2.0, and

I'm at a loss of how to explain that it only works well now with high contrast. I am on an iMac Retina 5K 27" Late 2015 with 32 GIG of RAM, 4GHz Intel Core i7. Most current version of both Mac OS and Photoshop.

In a nutshell, it leaves chunks out of the selection that you have to manually go in and mask, and just does't respect the wispy areas of hair like it did previously.

See attached.

Jori, did you try the same images with refine edge? did you use the slider under decontaminate colors? Did you try Photoshop CC 2017?

Decontaminate Colors doesn't help, and the newest version 2017 IS somewhat better, but not as reliable as the first version with CC 2015.

Not sure if you are all aware. The old refine edge still exists in 2017.0.1 and latter version. to get to it you must use the selection menu, hold shift and click on Select & mask. The old refine edge in all it's glory will open.
