Lr 4.4 – Import bug with Nikon D600 – Win 7, 64-bit

Camera setup: The Nikon D 600 has two card slots that can be set to
a) Raw on card 1 + JPG on card 2, or
b) “backup” – each image will be stored on both cards, or
c) “overflow” – images will be written to card 1 and when that is full to card 2.

I have set the camera to “backup” – each image is recorded on both cards; I am shooting Raw only (no JPGs).

On import directly from camera (via USB) Lr 4.4 imports images from card 1 and some (not all!) images from card 2 as duplicates, i.e. they have the suffix “ –2”.
The strange thing is that not all imported images have these duplicates – only some. For a while every other image has a duplicate, then 4 or 5 images in a sequence don’t, then every third image has a duplicate, then again every second image – so it’s random.

In one series of 77 images I got an additional 33 duplicates for a total of 110 images.
In another series of 150 images I got additional 75 duplicates for a total of 225 images.
In the third series of 162 images I got 57 duplicates.

The box in the Import Dialog is checked.

Now, I know I will get replies telling me to use a card reader. OK, I will from now on. But the bug is still there.
