16 Bit Printing in Windows 10

Lightroom Classic does not appear to permit 16 bit printing from the Print module in Windows 10. Using Canon PRO-100S printer and uptodate XPS 16 bit driver, prints ok, but doesn't display the 16 bit checkbox in the Print module right hand panel. I am assured that Windows 10 does accept & output 16 bit images. Canon assure me that their driver & their plugin called Print Studio Pro will output 16 bit in Windows 10. They cannot get the 16 bit checkbox to display and cannot comment as to whether Lightroom is passing across a 16 bit image when not using their plugin.

I believe that Lightroom Classic does not pass across a 16 bit image to the 16 bit driver.

From Victoria's book:

"It requires 16-bit printer drivers provided by your printer manufacturer,
which are currently limited to high end printers on macOS."

There should be an updated version of the book out shortly.

Please note, NOT solved

My understanding from Victoria is that this may no longer be correct. Windows 10 now handles 16 bit images, so LR and PS should also do so. It needs to be checked out accurately with Adobe.

As you can see from the Microsoft link: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/adrianford/2008/10/21/16-bits-and-more-printing-on-windows/ support for Windows 16 bit printing was included in 2008, some 10 years ago! This is an issue which has been raging for some considerable time. Canon told me that 16 bit output was available using their XPS driver. The question is whether or not Adobe LR and PS will pass this 16 bit image across to the 16 bit driver. Many people, including me, do not think so.

I've switched it to a feature request, as it's working as originally designed, but may have merit for further development, as it sounds like such drivers are now available on Windows.
