How, exactly are you resetting the preferences?

How does the background eraser tool not work for you?
I just tested it on a couple of images and it seems to be working as it always has...

As per instructions everywhere . . . press the Shift key, the Ctrl key and the Alt key together as you click on Photoshop to open it. The resulting pop-up message reads: "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File? Yes No."

I just downloaded the Photoshop update today, and the reset will not work. I get an additional message that reads: "Cannot complete command because the extension could not be loaded. OK." (No clue what this means).

I cannot reset.

Photoshop CC 2014 Background Eraser Tool Not Working and you can see all the posts.

There are 554 views on this location only about this problem. I have have spoken to Tier 2 support rep on 2 occasions; numerous people have written and written and written about this problem, so I'm surprised that you are now able to get this to work. . .when no one else can. Can you tell me how you did it?

Thank you

We'll research the prefs reset and see if we can reproduce the problem.

All I did was use the background eraser tool - and it's working fine. If you want us to investigate a problem with the background eraser, you need to provide details so we have some idea what problem you are seeing. and how we can reproduce the problem.

And the number of views doesn't mean much in the forums.

Here is prob with background eraser tool: After you click, you cannot hold and drag (which is how everyone uses the tool - so you can see where you are going with it and the amount of effect). Holding while dragging does nothing. In order to remove any part of the background or see what you have done, you have release the mouse button. I've been using the tool all along and it worked fine until I downloaded the 2014.1 release. The blur tool is behaving similiarly but not 100%.

Meant to tell you Chris: Many folks reverted to Photoshop CC and got the Background Eraser tool to work - but others who tried that approach were not successful.
