LIGHTROOM - "Unable to merge the photos" error message stuck in UI

Sometimes Photoshop Lightroom 6.0.1 is unable to perform an unassisted HDR merge (SHIFT+CTRL+H). It then shows the error message "Unable to merge the photos.".
Today I experienced that the error message appeared, and then got stuck on the screen.
Navigating between the modules and trying to perform further work Lightroom did not remove the error message. The message "Unable to merge the photos." was displayed in the middle of the UI on any lightroom tool. Even merging another set of photos to HDR (successfully) did not remove the initial error.
This is a bug, obviously. It disappears when restarting Lightroom, and I'm not able to recreate it by trying out the same operation again the restart.

Does turning the GPU off and back on (or on then back off) remove the message as the UI is refreshed?

Steve, I'm not able to reproduce the behaviour consistently, but if it appears again I will try to toggle the GPU setting.

Same issue with me. Toggling the GPU setting makes no difference.
Lightroom has to be restarted

It has not been fixed, happens sporadically for me too on 6.1.1.
