Whenever I open the Photoshop program, this pops up: "The material file is bad or corrupted." Then as it loads up, it freezes on me and I have to use task manager to kill it. It's not a file that says it, it's the PROGRAM itself. Please help. I need Photoshop for school ASAP.

Hi Mai Lo.

Maybe a virus is damaging your files as happened to me time ago. In that case run your antivirus, try again to open photoshop. If the problem persists uninstal-reinstal photoshop. Erase the whole hard drive and reinstal again should be the ultimate solution if your computer is severely damaged.
Good luck!!

You stated whenever you "Open Photoshop" you get this message or when you open a Photoshop file?

1. If you are getting this message every time you open Photoshop, it sounds like the  installation is a poor one.

Can you re-install photoshop? If you do need to re-install photoshop you need to uninstall it first and then run the Clean install tool from Adobe. You need to get the right uninstall tool for the correct version of photoshop that you have. If you need help with this email me back and I can help you.

If you get this message when you open a photoshop file does this happen on all photoshop files you try and open or this particular one? If it is all photoshop files, I believe a virus or malware may be at fault here.

Let me know answers to the above in order to further assist you.

Regards,]

A reinstall might help, otherwise, move the materials presets out of the presets folder: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/796980

A pattern file is actually corrupt..... go to Edit>Presets>Preset Manager. Switch the Preset type to patterns and delete any pattern that u created yourself or the one that's corrupt

I know this is old but I get an issue with photoshop Cs6 and the issue is similar I get This contour file is bad or corrupted. I've had it for some time now and the first time i had it I got this material file is bad or corrupted too but that was the one time. I also have a program that works with Photoshop called Quixel and while this issue is occuring I cannot use Quixel. A fix would be greatly appreciated.
