Lightroom 6 "Preview not available"

I have Lightroom 6, I have imported a series of photos from my i-Mac hard disc, the photos are all taken from the same camera with the same SD card installed.
One particular series will not import, they are greyed out "no previews available"
Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how it can be overcome?

Which Camera? Did you use any other software to offload the images from the card?

Even when the import dialog shows "no preview available", it should not prevent Lr from being able to import it.

When you said "One particular series will not import", could it be that you have checked "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" in the right hand panel of the import dialog and some of the photos in that series have been imported into the catalog before.

I have done as you suggested, all to no avail, Lightroom will not import.
Same photos will import to Elements 13, Capture one, all NIK software?

Ken, let's reset your preference file. Exit Lightroom. Hold down[Shift][Alt/Opt] and relaunch Lightroom. Accept the prompt to overwrite.

Are you able to import now?

If you uncheck the "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" import settings, are you able to import?

Or if you create a test new catalog and are you able to import?
