Lightroom Classic: "Guided" transform cursor way too sensitive

When correcting vertical lines for architectural shots, the 'guided' cursor in the transform panel is an excellent tool, however it is way too sensitive to any mouse or pad movement.  Is there any way to make this less sensitive in future updates?  Using it currently, I feel lucky to be able to connect two dots that are on the line I need.

A "sensitivity configuration" would be really nice.

Press and hold down the Alt/Option modifier key while dragging the cursor when you want it to slow down and be more precise.

That seems to work much better in ACR than it does in Lightroom. It also seems to work better when you adjust already set guidelines than when you first set them.

Agreed. Alt/Opt doesn't seem to have much, if any, effect when first placing the guidelines, only when adjusting guidelines that have already been set.

Besides only working AFTER the guidelines have been set the Alt/Option magnifier doesn't seem to follow the guideline point but instead moves off the point.

It also works best when zoomed in. It is far too jerky and hard to place with precision when zoomed out, even while holding Alt(esp when first placing, as others have mentioned)

It was tagged as Lightroom CC and Lightroom CC calls this panel Optics rather than Transform. I have tagged it with the Classic category now.
