Photoshop: "Crop to..." settings reset when updating linked AI file

1. Add an AI file as a layer using "Place Linked..."
2. Select "Bleed Box" as crop boundary
3. Change AI file in Illustrator, save
4. Linked AI layer in Photoshop will update, but artwork will shrink to Crop Box size and anything in bleed area disappears. I'm guessing it reset "Crop to" settings to "Crop Box".

To work around this, I manually re-link the AI file again, selecting "Bleed Box" as crop setting but this should not be normal behaviour. Normal behaviour should be that PS remembers the crop setting of Linked AI files.

Original state: Linked AI in PS

Updated state: Bleed area cropped out

Am I missing something?

Any feedback appreciated.

I think that rather than cropping to the crop box, it crops to the Bounding Box while ignoring the original crop rule. At least, that's what happens to me in my situation. The main point I think is that when automatically updating/relinking, smartobjects ignore the original crop rule and does its own thing. This needs to be fixed.
