"Could not save "a file" because of a program error."

CS6, OS 10.9.4

Error Message: Could not save “SweetPeaMask.tif” because of a program error.
I'm trying to save the file.

Tried rebooting, zap-pram, fix permissions. Nothing worked.

Interestingly: this problem is just happening with one file. When I flatten the file I can save it. And other files save just fine.

I am wondering if there is a work-arouind to save this file, as there is a lot of work and layers in it I don't want to save.

Chris Cox are you there?

It probably means that a mask or layer (which exists outside the bounds of the document) is too large for the PSD format.
Try saving as PSB (large document format) and see if that works.

Thanks, I'll try this, and keep this in mind in the future. I was able to save my selections, and save adj. layer presets, then open an original version of the file before I worked on it, and transfer the selections and adj. layer presets to this file, and recreate the file I couldn't save. I saved this version as a PSD. This worked. I also deleted one layer at a time to see if the file would save, which it didn't. Interesting problem. I'm good for now.
